the History of Camberley
Originally called Yorktown, then Cambridge Town, finally Camberley was adopted in 1877 so as not to confuse anyone with Cambridge! Housing started to be built from the train station which is still evident in the late Victorian properties in Upper Gordon Road, Middle Gordon Road and Portesbery Road. Subsequent building from the town centre saw larger, detached houses in roads off Park Road incorporating Tekels Avenue, Brakendale Road, Heathway and Church Hill.
