the History of Aldershot

Known as the Home of the British Army this typical English village has transformed over the years to the modern day bustling town it is now rife with residential Victorian terraces, surrounding a vibrant High street awash with local people and visitors alike.

Things to do in Aldershot

There is lots of open spaces in and around Aldershot – offering you the opportunity to explore the countryside and great options for dog walking, sports and play areas including Aldershot Park and play area, Rowhill Nature Reserve and Manor Park that also has a skate park.

Activities 

The town is also extremely proud to be home to Aldershot FC a real focal point within the town and part of the national league. It really does have the support and backing of the community. The new Westgate Centre completed in 2012 has a selection of restaurants and also a multi screen cinema perfect for a night out or weekend with the family. The town also has MFA bowling alley, Aldershot Military Museum, Alpine Sports Centre and local Lido and Garrison Pool. There is also Go Ape and Alice holt just a short drive away in nearby Farnham. 

Entertainment 

Aldershot’s West End Centre hosts a fantastic selection of music events for every taste from punk to folk, comedy theatre classes and workshops. They also run theatre classes and workshops for children and host an annual festival – Westival! Aldershot is also home to the fantastic 600 seat venue Princess Hall which offers many music, ballet and comedy events including its annual pantomime. Alpine Snowsports in Aldershot offers a number of exciting snow sports activities for all ages and abilities. A range of hand-on interactive activities about military life can be found at the Aldershot Military Museum. 

Food & Drink 

The Westgate Centre offers high street names including Nando’s and Pizza Express they also offer home delivery services such as Deliveroo and Just Eat, so you can also enjoy their food in the comfort of your own home. Aldershot also has large selection of excellent independent eateries and cafes such as Johney Gurkha Restaurant, Taste Buds Caribbean Cuisine and Caffe Macchiato. 

Nightlife 

There are pubs and bars to unwind in after a busy day at work form the more traditional such as the George, Trafalgar Inn, Red lion, Queens Hotel to the Funky End with great music and atmosphere.

Shopping 

There are several large supermarkets such as Tesco, Morrisons and Lidl as well as plenty of smaller retailers around the town with a diverse selection of goods to cater for the multicultural population.

Fantastic road links to the Blackwater Valley and onto the M3 and M25 and A3 towards Guildford. There are regular train links to Waterloo, Ascot line and to Guildford.There is also a fantastic local bus service linking Aldershot to nearby towns such as Farnham, Fleet, Farnborough and Ashvale.
